Young people
Bringing the Scriptures into the home is a key element of Bible Society activity. A particular concern is to help young people to build their lives on God’s Word. These are just a few of the stories of Bible Society's work with young people. Philippines: Light to the Home
Reaching families with the Gospel message is the driving force behind the Philippine Bible Society’s Light to the Home program.
Armed with materials including a special Bible containing articles about family and community issues, Bible Society staff work alongside church members to visit thousands of families starting a new life on government relocation sites. Everywhere they go, they receive a warm welcome. “People are becoming more and more open to God’s Word,” says Flor del Rosario, a relocation site resident who helps to lead an organisation of Catholic mothers. “Through the Bible we are becoming better mothers, neighbours and friends.”
Drama and storytelling in Lebanon and Northern Ireland
Bible Societies are helping children – many of whom are living in difficult circumstances – to build their lives around the Scriptures in schools. Music, drama and storytelling make the Gospel message attractive and understandable.
The Bible Society in Lebanon hosts school groups at its Bible World interactive
attraction. It is also a partner in the Just for Kids drama team, which tours schools and churches in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Iraq. There are Scripture-based clown shows for children from Catholic schools in Beirut. And in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the Bible Societies are part of The Amazing Journey, a storytelling initiative bringing God’s Word into Catholic and Protestant primary schools. Take-home packs are designed to help the children to share the stories with their families.
After-school activities in Albania
In Albania, the Bible Society supports a flourishing children’s ministry in the mainly Catholic town of Shkodër. Many young people are registered for after-school activities at a Catholic complex there, and publications supplied by the Bible Society make a significant contribution to the young people’s Bible studies led by Father Mikele. The Scriptures are passed on to priests in surrounding parishes. So now, deep in the countryside beyond Shkodër, there are many young people who, like 18-year-old Greta, can say, “I enjoy reading the Bible. Everything I do, I do because I believe in God."
